What is a consignment sale?

  • When selling a luxury timepiece a consignment sale is an excellent way to achieve a higher sale price for your watch in a relatively short period of time. When using the consignment sale option, an agreement yourself & MTW Watches is drawn up in which we agree to sell your watch for you on your behalf.
  • Upon filling out your consignment request below, a member of our team will be in touch to collect some details regarding the watch. Once these details our collected we will be able to find a suitable price point for your watch so that we’d be confident in being able to sell it quickly.
  • The terms of the consignment agreement will be set out in a contract which’ll be in place for a set time period along with a set & agreed commission rate. The consignment agreement will also mention any additional details that could be put in place.


Consignment sale VS outright sale:

  • An outright sale allows you to get paid immediately & may be the best-suited option if you are in need of the money in a short period of time. Whereas a consignment sale requires you to wait until the watch is sold by us.
  • However, due to the risk & responsibility of an outright sale being passed onto a dealer, your pay-out would be less than if you were to choose a consignment sale.
  • If you were to choose a consignment sale, your total pay-out could be a significant amount more than an outright sale.
  • A consignment sale through MTW Watches removes any risks of you selling your watch privately.

MTW Watches terms of consignment:

  • MTW Watches offer an extremely competitive rate of consignment terms. Our standard commission rate is 12.5%, whereas many competitors charge a minimum of 15-20%.
  • Our contract term is for 6 months, which allows us to increase the chance of a sale for your watch. Once again, this is a competitive term with many dealers keep you bound to a contract for year.
  • If you decide you’d like to take your watch out of consignment you are obliged to pay an early termination fee of £250, whereas many competitors will require you to pay their full commission.
  • If any extensive repairs, polishing, or refurbishment of your watch is needed, a price will be agreed with you before you agree to the terms, & this price will be added to the contract. However, you will not be required to pay this upfront, provided the watch is sold, any agreed costs will be deducted from your total pay-out.
  • Once your watch is sold, all funds will be transferred to the bank details provided by yourself. We allow 14 days for these funds to be transferred, however often this will be done sooner.
